Fiesta Gitana quilt detail 01

Fiesta Gitana comes to life with Willyne’s brilliant fussy cutting!

Cathi in Toronto (Quilt Obsession blog) picked up the rhythm for her Gypsy Party too.

If you are curious about how Cathi gets such perfect intersections for her stars, this old video shows how to “circle the intersection.”

No matter which size you choose, you can get spectacular effects that make color spin and twirl and swoop across the quilt.

If you are curious about fussy cutting with Inklingo, this new video should help. The example is Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses but the same technique works for all of Willyne’s designs.

  1. Fiesta is such a fabulous design it’s hard to tear myself away to do anything else. I just want to sew more and more of the star blocks and then start putting it together — although I’ve got quite a while to go before I’m at that stage. I can’t wait to see which design you’re going to do a collection for next, though. And I must admit I’ve got a fabric in mind for fussy cutting for one of them that may or may not work.

Circling the intersection is one of many fabulous lessons I learned from you — even stars with 10 or 12 points can have perfect centres with a little work. I’m so used to circling the intersections now that I do it all the time without even thinking about it and am always thrilled when I get a perfect centre. All thanks to your lessons, either in person at Jillybeans or on the Quilted Diamonds 2 DVD.
