SEW BY HAND OR BY MACHINE OR ENGLISH PAPER PIECE

GOOD NEWS

Hexagons are not just for quilters who like English Paper Piecing.

It is much easier to print the shapes on fabric with Inklingo (TWO methods of fussy cutting) and sew with a running stitch. Quilters tell me they can start and finish 3 or 4 POTC blocks with Inklingo in the time it would take to make ONE with EPP.

On the other hand, there are 8 Good Ways to Use Inklingo for EPP if that is the method you love.

You can make all of these designs with English Paper Piecing, but it is more precise, faster, and easier when you print the shapes on fabric with Inklingo.

Inklingo makes the preparation and sewing easier, so you can devote yourself to creating exciting settings and color combinations, as shown on the blog in the Wednesday Tutes.

New Millefiore Quilt A Long

My 300 Pieced Hexagons came along years before Katja prepared her book of 52 designs for English Paper Piecing.  Most of the shapes are the same, but she uses a few odd shapes that I don't use in mine.

You can make "almost" all of the designs in Katja's book—and several hundred more pieced hexagon designs—by printing the shapes on fabric (or freezer paper) with Inklingo.

You can combine shapes printed with Inklingo with shapes you mark manually and there are only a few odd shapes, so for the shapes that are not inklingoable, I recommend making a freezer paper template without seam allowances (trace or print with Inklingo) and marking the seam lines manually with a mechanical pencil.  This is the method taught in my Quilted Diamonds books.

Even if you don't use Inklingo for ANY of the pieced hexagons, making freezer paper templates and sewing with a running stitch (à la Quilted Diamonds) or by machine is a very economical approach compared to buying paper pieces.  It is not as precise and fast as printing with Inklingo but it is much faster, easier, and more precise than English Paper Piecing.

Love the lines. Quilt more!

To make all 300 designs, you need 16 different shapes.

No matter how you intend to sew your Pieced Hexagons, you can't go wrong with this ebook.

All the excitement started with a series of free tutorials on the blog, called Wednesday Tutes.

Inklingo Pieced Hexagons by Fern in Singapore

"I am such a convert to Inklingo. It has transformed my life. Indeed, I had 2 quilts juried into this year’s Houston Festival - one was paper pieced over 2 and a half years and then there was my POTC, completed in 7 months on account of Inklingo. I cannot see myself doing EPP again. Inklingo is better, more accurate, faster and you do not see the stitches too, so so much prettier!" — Fern in Singapore

Fern used various American and Japanese fabrics in this fun, charming quilt. See details of the adorable blocks in Fern's Through The Woods here.
