SPOOL 7.5 INCH
(ALSO CALLED JAPANESE X)

System Requirements Print shapes on fabric with any ordinary Inkjet printer.

This Inklingo PDF includes shapes for the old-fashioned Spool Block by Nancy Cabot (Beyer 186-2 and Brackman 1970).
This old block has become popular recently as “Japanese X” because of a quilt exhibited in Japan by Setsuko Inagawa in 2011.
I was inspired by a gorgeous variation by Carol Skinner of Panama, who gave me permission to use photos she took of her blocks.

Features of this Shape Collection (PDF)
- shapes to print on fabric
- instructions for machine piecing
- assembly tips
- detailed notes about pressing
- diagrams showing how much fabric you need
- worksheets
- shapes without seam allowances to print on freezer paper
(just in case you want templates)

Print several fabrics to mix and match. It's fun and it is a great way to use scraps from your stash.
Combo 1 allows you to print all the shapes on one scrap 8.5 x 13.5 (smaller than legal size).
& More
- a choice of regular or combo layout to use fabric efficiently and save time
- alternate layouts especially for striped fabric
- use a rotary cutter or scissors
- ideal for fussy cutting and scrap quilts

A Choice of Methods
I sew these shapes by machine unless I need a portable project. With Inklingo lines printed on the fabric, you can sew some seams by hand and some by machine.
Love the lines. Quilt more!

You can see Carol's individual blocks in the shape collection AND on her Postcards from Panama blog. Carol has some great Inklingo quilts there too.
MAIN HEXAGON PAGE
The main Spool shape is the hexagon. This one is normally machine pieced.
